Watch the trailer for Chris Gethard’s ‘Career Suicide,’ debuting May 6 on HBO

Comedian Chris Gethard debuted his one-man off-Broadway show Career Suicide back in October of 2016 to critical acclaim, following its initial sold-out run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Now, with all said and done, the first trailer has arrived for the subsequent comedy special, which is set to air May 6 on HBO.

Chris Gethard: Career Suicide, as seen in the above trailer, is a comedy show about depression, suicide and substance abuse. Throughout the show, Gethard, who has been compared to Woody Allen a time or two, shares stories and experiences with things like psychiatry and mental illness, resulting in a show that is both entertaining and moving.

Career Suicide, which was written by Gethard and directed by Kimberly Senior, was recorded at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center back in February. The special was exec-produced by comedy legend Judd Apatow along with Gethard, Brian Stern, Anna Wenger, Mike Berkowitz and Marcus Raboy. “I’m so excited that the entire world will be able to see Chris’ one-man show,” said Apatow in a statement. “And then, whenever he walks into a room, people will look at him funny.”

Gethard has a long list of credits, among them, his Fusion comedy series, The Chris Gethard Show. He has appeared on a number of shows including The Office, Parks and Recreation, Inside Amy Schumer, Louie, Bored to Death and Broad City and also had a supporting role in Mike Birbiglia’s 2016 indie dramedy film Don’t Think Twice.
