Phish ‘Big Boat’ to drop Friday October 7

Phish Big BoatPhish is expected to drop their 13th studio album this Friday, Oct. 7, 2016. The forthcoming album, entitled Big Boat, marks the followup to their well-received 2014 effort Fuego.

Big Boat was produced by Bob Ezrin (who also worked with the Vermont-based jamband on their previous album Fuego) and was recorded in Nashville, New York and the band’s home studio in Vermont—The Barn. The album will be released on CD and LP along with being made available on all digital outlets.

Those who can’t wait until Friday can give the album a listen in its entirety here, courtesy of NPR’s “First Listen” segment. The album’s producer (Ezrin) reportedly put a lot of emphasis on pushing the group to divulge more of their inner selves on Big Boat, something that certainly encouraged the resulting range of emotion heard on the album. Fans of Junta will likely be pleased with the epic 13-minute multi-part album closer “Petrichor,” which calls back sounds the band’s 1989 breakout.

Phish are about to embark on their 2016 Fall tour, which kicks off with a two-night run at the North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston, SC on Oct. 14 and 15. The jam quartet will make stops in Nashville, TN, Grand Prairie, TX, Jacksonville, FL and more before wrapping up with four sure-to-be-insane nights at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The group also recently announced plans to return to New York for a New Year’s Eve blowout at Madison Square Garden running from Dec. 28 through Dec. 31, prior to which will see bassist Mike Gordon hitting the road for a series of dates with his solo act.
