Fiona Apple, TV on the Radio & more slated for Standing Rock benefit concert

TV on the RadioA new benefit concert has just been announced in support of the Standing Rock community. Entitled “We Rock with Standing Rock,” the concert’s lineup is topped by Fiona Apple and TV on the Radio and is set to go down at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, Dec. 18.

“We Rock with Standing Rock” comes courtesy of Goldenvoice — the same company behind the ever-popular Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival & Stagecoach Country Music Festival — in celebration of the recent victory over the Dakota Access Pipeline project, which prompted the US Army Corps of Engineers to halt construction on sacred land that would potentially affect important Sioux water sources. Though the win appears promising, TV on the Radio’s Kyp Malone, who also organized the benefit, says there is still work to be done.

“There are 500 legal changes still pending toward the water protectors. This means they will need continued support. The levels of deprivation, unconscionably low life expectancy, infant mortality, and the adolescent suicide rate all point to the continued need for us to stand in support of First Nations people. We need to keep the light shining on this. We won this battle but the war does go on. Please let’s stay vigilant.”

Joining the likes of Fiona Apple and TV on the Radio on the “We Rock with Standing Rock” bill are Patricia Arquette, Devendra Banhart, Riley Keough, Robby Romero, Sky Ferreira, Bobby Jean, Benjamin Booker, Moses Sumney, Kimya Dawson, Jolie Holland, NAHKO, Valerie June, Bouquet, Holly Miranda, The Chapin Sisters, Becky Stark, Laura Burhenn & more special guests.

Tickets for “We Rock with Standing Rock” go on sale to the general public this Friday, Dec. 9 at 10:00am PST but there is also a presale marked for Thursday. GA Floor tickets will cost $25 and Reserved Balcony will go for $35 with all proceeds going to benefit The Official Oceti Sakowin Camp (Seven Council Fires) Fund, Native Children’s Survival, The Seeding Sovereignty Project and GiveLove.

Doors will open at 7pm with the show will begin at 8pm. Click here for more information on the cause, the complete concert lineup and to pick up tickets.
