Stand-up comedy specials set to premiere in July 2017

Fans of stand-up comedy have certainly been spoiled as of late. Subscribers of Netflix, Seeso, HBO, Showtime and other networks have been graced with a steady stream of comedy hour-longs in 2017, from straight ahead stand-up to Broadway shows to variety specials, and July promises to be no different.

Kicking things off this Fourth of July is The Standups. Season 1 of the new Netflix series will feature six half-hour specials from six up-and-coming comedians including Beth Stelling, Nate Bargatze and more (see the complete lineup and teaser trailer here). Next up is the premiere of Erik Griffin’s first ever stand-up comedy special, The Ugly Truth. The I’m Dying Up Here co-star talks babies, burgers and a whole lot more in his new special, debuting July 7 at 9/8c on Showtime.

The third week of July will see the release of three comedy specials from two comedians on one streaming service. The trio of hour-longs — one from Aditi Mittal, two from Ari Shaffir — are all slated to hit Netflix simultaneously on July 18. Mittal’s special, Things They Wouldn’t Let Me Say, will see the comedian riffing on gender, sex and modern life in her native India, while Shaffir’s Double Negative: Collection (Children and Adulthood) will find the comic touching on single life, marriage and kids.

Joe Mande, who announced his Award-Winning Comedy Special earlier this month, is expected to drop his new hour-long on July 25. The special, recorded in January at New York City’s Highline Ballroom, features topics ranging from Jewish summer camp to Shark Tank and more.
