November 10th has been declared ‘Morrissey Day’ in Los Angeles

Morrissey is getting his very own day. That’s right, Friday Nov. 10 will now be known officially as “Morrissey Day” in Los Angeles, CA.

Morrissey’s new day was made official yesterday, Nov. 8, by The Los Angeles City Council just ahead of the singer’s two-night run with Billy Idol at the Hollywood Bowl on November 10. Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez had this to say in a statement:

“Morrissey Day honors the man who put the ‘M’ in Moz Angeles, an icon whose music continues to touch and uplift countless people across the globe. Morrissey uses his voice to raise awareness for many social issues while ‘in his own strange way,’ always staying true to his fans.”

Mayor Eric Garcetti further championed the former Smiths frontman with a few kind words of his own. “Los Angeles embraces individuality, compassion, and creativity, and Morrissey expresses those values in a way that moves Angelenos of all ages,” said Garcetti. “Morrissey Day celebrates an artist whose music has captivated and inspired generations of people who may not always fit in — because they were born to stand out.”

Morrissey will be honored with an official commemorative certificate, to be presented at tomorrow night’s show at the Hollywood Bowl, during which the venue has also agreed to exclusively serve vegetarian fare, per the singer’s request.

Morrissey’s new album Low in High School comes out this Friday. Check out the video for the album’s first single, “Spent the Day in Bed,” and check out all current Moz tour dates below.
