October is shaping up to be a great month for live music in Chicago with acts like SZA, Phish, Chromeo, Amyl and the Sniffers, Mudhoney and Ms. Lauryn Hill all passing through town. Another can’t miss show is taking place on Oct. 12 as the Melbourne-based garage-punks CIVIC are performing at the Empty Bottle – with Chicago’s own Ganser on hand as support – in conjunction with their first ever U.S. Tour.
CIVIC’s tour begins with a Sept. 29 show at Gonerfest in Memphis before passing through Nashville, New York, Detroit and other great cities. As mentioned above, the band will be in Chicago on Oct. 12 and the tour is set to conclude at Levitation 2023 in Austin on Oct. 27.
Earlier this year, CIVIC released their latest album, Taken By Force, via ATO Records and they recently shared the video for the single “Hourglass.”
“Off the back of Taken By Force we wanted to create something new, an evolution of sound for us. We’d dropped down to a 4 piece so already Lewis had more space to come through with his guitar parts, be more experimental, less chaotic; more defined,” said frontman Jim McCullough. “Lyrically I am touching on aspects of change, more specifically the process during change. Going through some kind of shit and sediment and coming out the other side; a hopeful development of a refined version. We start again.”
