HBO renews Pete Holmes comedy series ‘Crashing’ for Season 2

HBO's Crashing starring Pete Holmes

Pete Holmes’ Crashing has just been officially renewed for Season 2. The HBO comedy series, of which Holmes is the creator and star, airs Sunday nights at 10:30 p.m.

The news of Crashing’s renewal comes just four episodes into the series or, in other words, midway through the eight-episode Season 1 run. Some notable faces from the world of comedy have already made appearances including Artie Lang and T.J. Miller, who both appear as friends of Holmes over the course of the series’ first few episodes.

Dave Attell, Jim Norton, Sarah Silverman, Hannibal Burress, Rachel Feinstein, Jeff Ross and Big Jay Oakerson are among the other notable comedians who appear in the series, produced by Holmes as well as comedy mastermind Judd Apatow.

“Pete and Judd have proven to be the ultimate ambassadors for the standup comedy world,” said HBO programming exec Amy Gravitt. “I’m delighted by the response to the show and am thrilled to welcome them back for a second season.”

Crashing debuted in mid February, kicking off the semi-autobiographical story of Pete, living as a happily married sheltered suburbanite who is attempting to make it as a stand-up comedian. After catching his wife cheating on him, Pete’s life falls apart and he ultimately decides to dive headfirst into the complicated New York comedy scene.

HBO has built a strong comedy block in recent years with shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm, Veep, Insecure, Silicon Valley, Ballers, Vice Principals, Divorce, High Maintenance and the aforementioned Crashing. With Apatow’s female-centric hit half-hour comedy series Girls coming to an end in April, it appears there should be plenty of options to help fill the void.
