Photos: Metalheads' dreams come true with Judas Priest & Alice Cooper in Tinley Park

On Sunday, Oct. 5, Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre in Tinley Park closed out the summer concert season with an epic lineup of metal musicians. Alice Cooper and Judas Priest brought their co-headlining tour to the Chicago-area – with support from Corrosion of Conformity – much to the delight of every metalhead in the crowd.

After ending his set with a show-stopping rendition of “School’s Out” – complete with an interlude from Pink Floyd’s anti-institution classic “Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2” – Cooper took time out to address the crowd.

“On behalf of the band, the cast, and myself. May all of your gorgeous, happy, darling dreams… become nightmares,” he said after introducing his talented bandmates Ryan Roxie (guitar), Chuck Garric (bass), Tommy Henriksen (multi-instrumentalist), Glen Sobel (drums), and Nita Strauss (guitar).
Cooper’s set unfolded like a play, following the protagonist, Cooper, has he made a violent descent into madness. “Feed My Frankenstein” – featuring a larger than life monster terrorizing the stage – “Poison,” and “I’m Eighteen” were among the highlights of the set.

There’s no doubt about it. Alice Cooper is a tough act to follow. That is for just about every band except for Judas Priest.

“Y’all ready for some Judas Priest-style heavy metal. Are you ready? Are you ready? Is everybody ready?  Let’s go,” said vocalist Rob Halford early in the set.

Fans were definitely ready for the face-melting licks of Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner, the relentless drums of Scott Travis, the unmistakable bass of Ian Hill, and, of course, Halford’s iconic vocals. Songs like “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’,” “Breaking the Law,” and “All Guns Blazing” were among the musical moments that had the audience singing along with every word.

And with an opening set from Corrosion of Conformity, it seems that the Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre save the best show of the year for last.
