Mew announces North American tour dates in support of ‘Visuals’

With their new album Visuals having just hit store shelves and digital outlets this morning, Danish art rockers Mew have announced a string of North American tour dates. There are 18 dates in total, all of which take place this coming August.

Mew’s U.S. tour will kick off in New York at the Bowery Ballroom on Aug. 3. The group will take the stage in Brooklyn and Washington, Boston and Philly prior to visiting our neighbors to the north for a show at Toronto’s Mod Club. The indie rockers will then head to the midwest for shows in Chicago, Detroit and St. Paul, MN. They’ll later make stops in Denver, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and San Diego before closing things out with a show at the El Rey Theatre in L.A.

Eponymous Review recently spoke with Mew bassist Johan Wohlert about Visuals, the band’s seventh album and the followup to 2015’s + – (plus minus), who says the group’s willingness to trust their instincts and not overthink things led to their quick return to the studio. Wohlert also showed a whole lotta love for the United States, calling it one of his favorite places to tour. “2015 was the best tour with Mew ever,” said the Mew bassist. “It was so cool to meet people who have been listening to the band for 10 plus years. …It’s been truly humbling to be on tour in America for us.”

Mew’s lead vocalist Jonas Bjerre, who creates all the visuals for the band’s art work and merchandise, also expressed fondness for the U.S. in a recent press release, where he said he’s “super thrilled” to return. Fans can expect lots of projections and videos, special lighting and effects throughout the 2017 tour, a lot of which comes courtesy of Bjerre… the mastermind behind the stage design and production for the upcoming dates.

Mew’s current touring lineup will include Bjerre, Wohlert and drummer Silas Utke Graae Jorgensen, along with guitarist Mads Wegner and keyboardist Nick Watts. Tickets for the tour go on sale Friday, May 5 at 10:00a.m.
