Back in 1993, Wu-Tang Clan’s debut release, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), not only served as an introduction to the groundbreaking new collective, it also pushed the music industry into a whole new dimension. A dimension where martial arts mythology, humor, hip-hop, and brotherhood combine to create an exciting world full of side quests and shared success.

The Wu-Tang Forever: The Final Chamber Tour marks the end of an era as it is a farewell tour. Parting is such sweet sorrow, but, when it comes to the Wu-Tang Clan, parting is just another chance to “Bring Da Ruckus” with a party to end all parties.

On Sept. 4, the surviving members of Wu-Tang Clan – RZA, GZA, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa, and Cappadonna – joined by Young Dirty Bastard (Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s son) and Mathematics, brought the Final Chapter celebration to Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre in Tinley Park. The RZA started the set, standing solo under the group’s unmistakable logo, with his single “You Can’t Stop Me Now” before leading the crew into hit after hit off of Enter the Wu-Tang. One by one, each member of Wu-Tang stepped onto the stage, taking a verse and trading control of the mic, until Method Man arrived to ever increasing cheers.

“It’s a pleasure for us to be here,” said RZA early in the set. “I got to make a confession, and this is from the bottom of my heart. I don’t care if you’re from the North, the East, the West, or the South. you all got to understand this… ‘If you got beef, then bring the ruckus. Wu-Tang Clan ain’t nuthing ta fuck wit’!”

Fans immediately knew what to do and screamed the last line along with him – Ws in the air.

“Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing ta F’ Wit,” “Method Man,” and “Clan in da Front” were just a few of the singles that got fans hyped during the first portion of the show. “Protect Ya Neck” marked the end of the official Enter the Wu-Tang era – “C.R.E.A.M.” would still show-up later on the setlist – and each rapper would soon get time to highlight their solo efforts.

Before Wu-Tang took the stage to say goodbye to Chicago-area fans, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony opened things up with a short, but satisfying set of their own iconic hits. Along with sharing their own harmonious tracks including “1st of tha Month” and “Tha Crossroads” among others, Bone Thugs also paid tribute to a few late-legends. Eazy-E’s “Boyz-n-the-Hood,” Biggie’s “Juicy,” and “California Love” by Tupac were all among the songs performed in honor of those who were lost way too soon.

Later, Wu-Tang also shared a remembrance to their own late-bandmate as ODB’s “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” and “Got Your Money” were highlights of the evening’s setlist.

Wu-tang is forever. Although the group may no longer tour together as an entity their music, legacy, and impact on the world of hip-hop and beyond remains eternal.
