Beloved Chicago pop-punk band Showoff has given fans a lot to be excited about. Not only have they announced plans to release their new album, Midwest Side Story, on Sept. 22, but they are also set to play a hometown show – with Punchline – at Reggie’s Rock Club on Aug. 12.

Midwest Side Story is the group’s first new album since they reformed in 2014. The mostly original lineup consists of Chris Envy (Chris Messer) on vocals, Dave Envy (Dave Hyde) on bass, Dan Castady on drums and Darren Vorel and George Castady on guitars.

In advance of the new album’s September release, Showoff premiered the new song “Popular Kid” on Alternative Press. “The song is about my life growing up, but we all feel it’s relatable to all people who feel disenfranchised or made to feel bad about themselves. Basically, it lets them know that they aren’t alone; and the people that matter in life, don’t care if they are popular or not, they care about them, a human being, on a much deeper level,” front man Chris Messer told the publication.
