Jena Friedman examines tough topics with ‘Soft Focus’

Jena Friedman

Jena Friedman has never been one to shy away from tough conversations. From her stand-up special American C*** to her time at The Daily Show, the comedian often applies a gentle, level-headed touch – along with dry humor and utter hilarity – to important subject matter. Friedman is once again diving head first into difficult discussions with her new Adult Swim special, Soft Focus with Jena Friedman, which premieres on Feb. 18 at midnight.

Throughout Soft Focus, Friedman tackles such issues as campus rape and the curious case of the cannibal cop with investigative techniques and innovative solutions. The comedic human-interest program – playing like a satirical PBS report – simultaneously induces cringes and uncontrollable laughter.

Soft Focus with Jena Friedman – directed by Anu Valia – will proceed Eric Andre’s wonderfully absurd new special Eric Andre Does Paris giving comedy fans a hilarious one-two punch from two of the most creative comedians of our time.

In advance of Soft Focus, Friedman stopped by Conan on Feb. 8 to perform a deliciously dark stand-up set that took aim at Nazis, patriarchies and sexual harassment. “If we in America treat Nazis the way we treat women, at the very least, they will never become president. Thank you guys so much,” she said at the conclusion of the hilarious set.

Tune into Adult Swim at midnight on Feb. 18 to watch the premiere of Soft Focus with Jena Friedman (followed by Eric Andre Does Paris) and watch Friedman’s hilarious Conan appearance below.
