The 2018 ‘On Cinema Oscar Special’ premieres live on March 4

On Cinema at the Cinema Oscar Special 2018

On Cinema at the Cinema is returning for its yearly “Oscar Special,” which is slated to coincide with the 90th Academy Awards celebration on Mar. 4. Host Tim Heidecker, joined by frequent guest — and the man behind Decker’s master code breaking agent Jonathan Kington — Gregg Turkington, will lead the live premiere, scheduled to kick off at 5:00 p.m. PT on Sunday exclusively on Adult Swim.

Not a whole lot has been revealed about this year’s On Cinema “Oscar Special,” though special guests Mark Proksch and the beloved Joe Estevez have officially been confirmed. There will also reportedly be a special appearance by the Rat Pack along with live music from none other than Heidecker’s own DKR. Who’s got the “Oscar Fever?”

Many fans likely remember last year’s first ever Our Cinema “Oscar Special.” Led by the series’ trusty unofficial co-host Turkington, the stripped down special materialized after Heidecker announced he would not be attending due to a scheduling conflict involving a DKR gig booked in Dubai. A Twitter war subsequently erupted, concluding with Heidecker granting the Ant-Man actor full rights to the Our Cinema name for the 2017 “Oscar Special.”

This year’s “Oscar Special” comes on the heals of the Electric Sun 20 trial, which saw Heidecker face 20 counts of second degree murder for the mass vape poisoning that took place at the Electric Sun Desert Music Festival in April 2017 at the Apple Valley Festival Grounds. Though nothing has been confirmed, we wouldn’t be surprised to see, in some capacity, a memorial of sorts to the victims incorporated into the production.

The 5th annual On Cinema “Oscar Special” has screenings at the Alamo Drafthouse in both San Francisco, CA and Austin, TX with limited seating still available at the latter location. Tickets are free with a $5 food and beverage voucher.

Tune in to Adult Swim on Mar. 4 for the 5th annual On Cinema “Oscar Special.” Needless to say, we’re expecting a “five bagger.”
