Chicago-area concert-goers were treated to a night of face-melting, eardrum obliterating, head-banging rock on Wednesday, Aug. 21, as Alice in Chains and Korn joined forces for a heavy-hitting double bill at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Tinley Park. Fever 333 and Underoath were along for the ride, setting the stage for an unforgettable night of music celebrating every genre from hardcore to alternative to nu metal and beyond.

“Angry Chair,” “Man in the Box” and “No Excuses” were among Alice in Chains’ set highlights and the group – comprised of Jerry Cantrell, Sean Kinney, Mike Inez and William DuVall – paid tribute to its late singer Layne Staley with a touching rendition of the Jar of Flies slow-burner “Nutshell.” “Would?” and “Rooster” provided the opportunity for a pair of cathartic, venue-wide sing-alongs to conclude the Seattle legends’ performance.

Korn wasted no time diving straight into “Here to Stay” as a curtain drop revealed Jonathan Davis and company in the full throes of a rock tornado. “Blind” – from the group’s hit-filled eponymous debut – soon followed as the band’s unbridled energy infected the crowd with the need to scream at the top of their lungs. “Freak on a Leash,” “Coming Undone” and “Twist” also appeared on Korn’s setlist.
