Synchronized dance moves, levitative jams and a special guest highlighted Hot Chip’s May 14 performance at Radius in Chicago. The North American tour-ending set was full of the sweeping synth-pop the UK group – comprised of Alexis Taylor, Joe Goddard, Owen Clarke, Al Doyle and Felix Martin – specializes in, creating an open space in which to get lost in the music.

After kicking off the show with some fun choreography during fan-favorite “Flutes,” the group shared the new track “Down” which appears on their forthcoming album, Freakout/Release, set to drop on Aug. 22. The song features a sample from Universal Togetherness Band’s hit “More Than Enough” and, as luck would have it, the group’s founder Andre Gibson was on hand to add to the fun.

“We’re super happy to have Andre Gibson from Universal Togetherness Band here tonight,” said Goddard introducing the Chicago songwriter. “A massive thank you to him for allowing us to sample his song.”

Although Doyle noted that the show was already “ninety percent more fun,” Hot Chip continued to raise the party-meter with “Don’t Deny Your Heart,” “Over & Over” and much more.

Earlier in the night, Friedberg – a London-based four-piece with a flare for building peppy percussive lines layer by layer – opened the show with tracks from their debut EP, YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH, as well as their latest single, “Never Gonna Pay the Rent.”
