Trading the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii for the shores of Lake Michigan in Chicago, Jack Johnson returned to Chicago on June 30, 2022, as part of his Meet the Moonlight Tour at Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island.

Johnson, who last played in Chicago in 2017, performed for a nearly sold-out show Thursday evening in support of his newly released album Meet the Moonlight. Due to a series of cancellations, this was the first live show after the June 24 album release.

A long supporter of the environment, Johnson’s tour featured several sustainable efforts for fans to take action including choosing to reuse and reduce plastic pollution by ordering signature cocktails with reusable pint cups. Each stop on the tour features a Village Green for fans to support local All At Once non-profit partners. In Chicago, fans lent support to non-profit organizations including Alliance for the Great Lakes, Just Roots Chicago, Gardeneers, Urban Growers Collective, Surfrider Chicago, Common Threads, Friends of the Chicago River and A Just Harvest.

Additionally, fans could snap a photo at the All At Once photo wall and make a commitment to support local farmers and food systems or opt for reusables and reduce plastic waste. Recycling and compost stations were setup throughout the venue to help recycle at the show. Sustainable transportation to reduce carbon footprint was also encouraged for fans arriving at the show by carpooling, riding bikes or utilizing mass transit or shuttles.

The nearly sold out show featured a few of the tracks from Johnson’s eighth studio album — which also happens to be his first full-length release in five years — including the title track.

Opening with “If I Had Eyes,” Johnson played a variety of crowd pleasers and earlier hits including “Sitting, Waiting, Wishing,” “Upside Down,” “Flake,” and “Bubble Toes.”
