It’s a tour that’s been over a decade in the making and it was well worth the wait.

The London Suede (AKA Suede) have returned to North America, on a special joint tour with Manic Street Preachers, for the first time since appearing at Coachella in 2011. Both bands first gained die-hard fans in the nineties and, during the Nov. 16 show at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, they both provided set-lists that spanned their respective discographies.

Manic Street Preachers – James Dean Bradfield, Nicky Wire and Sean Moore – kicked off the festivities in Chicago playing a collection of songs including “You Stole the Sun From My Heart,” “Everything Must Go,” “You Love Us” and much more. “From Despair to Where” was dedicated to Richey Edwards and “Motorcycle Emptiness” was performed in honor of Wire’s brother who lived in Chicago back when the band first played Metro nearly thirty years ago.

“My brother was living in Chicago at the time and he showed me the sights and it truly blew me away. The city still does today, walking around. This one’s for him because he fucked his leg up,” said Wire adding, “Patrick, this one’s for you.”

Suede recently released their ninth studio album, Autofiction – via BMG on Sept. 16 – and Brett Anderson, Mat Osman, Simon Gilbert, Richard Oakes and Neil Codling flawlessly incorporated new songs like “She Still Leads Me On” and “Personality Disorder” into their closing set. “The Drowners” – during which Anderson went out into the crowd – and “Animal Nitrate” gave old-school fans a thrill early on in Suede’s show and the performance continued to build from there.

It was a great night of music and hopefully both bands return to Chicago soon.

Suede and Manic Street Preachers’ co-headlining tour continues through Nov. 24. Check out photos from the Chicago stop below and click here to pick-up tickets to future dates.
