The members of Big Thief – Adrianne Lenker, Buck Meek, Max Oleartchik, James Krivchenia – are veteran Pitchfork Music Festival artists. The Brooklyn band has performed at the Chicago event many times in the past and on Saturday, July 22, they enthralled fans with a well-deserved headlining set.

Lightning delays and weather evacuations plagued the day causing sets from Snail Mail, Panda Bear & Sonic Boom, and Palm (who will now be playing an early afternoon set on Sunday) to be cancelled. After thanking fans for coming to Big Thief’s set, Lenker took a moment to share some levity about the forecast sarcastically saying, “It’s such a beautiful evening,” as rain continued to drizzle down. “Happy With You,” “Dried Roses” and “Certainty” were early crowd-pleasers during the hushed performance.

Before Lenker and company closed things out, festival-goers also enjoyed music from Weyes Blood, MJ Lenderman, King Krule, Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul, and many more acts. The day was defined by thoughtful, nourishing sets that fed the rain-soaked soul while inspiring a sense of community among the crowd.
