The Office of 24th Ward Alderwoman Monique Scott, the Chicago Park District, and Riot Fest are joining forces to host a day of fun during the 24th Ward End of Summer Celebration on Thursday, August 13, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Douglass Park.
This event will include a Community Talent Showcase featuring 25 selected performances who will compete live for the final community performance spot at Riot Fest. Two performers have already earned their place on the Riot Fest lineup and the winner of the 24th Ward showcase will become the third and final community artist to perform at Riot Fest.
The event will also feature a variety of family fun including carnival rides, games, activities, food vendors, and more. Local nonprofit organizations, community partners, and local resources from North Lawndale and Little Village will also be on-hand.
“This partnership is about creating opportunities and celebrating everything that makes our community special,” said Alderwoman Monique Scott. “By working together with the Chicago Park District and Riot Fest, we’re giving local artists a chance to perform on one of the country’s premier festival stages while bringing families together for a day that celebrates our neighborhoods, our culture, and the organizations that serve our community every day.”
“Riot Fest has always been about discovering great music, and there’s no shortage of talent right here in North Lawndale and Little Village,” said Riot Mike Petryshyn, Founder of Riot Fest. “Who knows? The next artist to tour the world could be right here in our own backyard. Sometimes all someone needs is an opportunity and a stage. If Riot Fest can help open that door for someone while bringing the community together, that’s something we’re proud to be part of.”
