Jesse Eisenberg to write, direct and star in half-hour comedy series ‘The Market’


Jesse Eisenberg is the latest big-name movie star to make a move to the small screen. Teaming with J.J. Abram’s Bad Robot Productions, The Social Network Oscar-nominated actor will be writing, directing and starring in the half-hour single-camera comedy series titled The Market.

According to Deadline, The Market follows a recently widowed man named Harold Katzman, who relocates to Pittsburgh to live with his son Stan (Eisenberg) and both men some become unemployed “due to the changing American economy and are thrust into an unforgiving job market.”

Eisenberg has had a highly successful movie career, peaking with his recent role as Lex Luther in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. He has done a number of comedy character pieces, Noah Baumbach’s The Squid and the Whale and Woody Allen’s To Rome With Love and Cafe Society to name a few, and has appeared in several big action comedies including Zombieland, 30 Minutes Or Less and the highly-popular Now You See Me franchise.

With regards to TV, Eisenberg actually began his career with a role in the Fox comedy Get Real, in which he co-starred alongside Anne Hathaway. More recently, he made a voice cameo (uncredited) in Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom and later appeared in one episode of ABC’s hit sitcom Modern Family.

The Market, which is still in the early stages of development, will be exec produced by Eisenberg for Warner Bros. TV with Bad Robot Productions’ Ben Stephenson.
