Johnny Marr has just announced a new Spring Tour spanning much of North America. The 2019 tour dates will continue support for the legendary Smiths’ guitarist’s latest solo effort Call The Comet.
After kicking things off with a show at Atlanta’s Variety Playhouse on Apr. 27, Marr will make stops in North Carolina, New Jersey, New York and more before heading west. The guitarist and singer has dates plotted in Chicago, Detroit, Milwaukee, Denver, Las Vegas and San Diego, prior to the tour’s final performance at the John Anson Ford Ampitheatre in Los Angeles on May 21.
2018 saw the release of Marr’s critically acclaimed album, Call The Comet, and a subsequent tour which included appearances at Ohana Music & Arts Festival and Riot Fest. The album, recorded at Marr’s Manchester-based Crazy Face Factory and marking the followup to 2014’s Playland, is lyrically and thematically rich, exploring ideas of an alternative futuristic society. Marr discussed the album in an interview with Rolling Stone:
“I wouldn’t call it a concept record. But it’s got a unifying theme going through it about the Earth welcoming a different intelligence from the cosmos to save us from our own plight. The title Call the Comet is sort of a conscious plea for a new way.”
