Morrissey has paired up with Grizzly Bear’s Ed Droste for the second single from his forthcoming cover album California Son. Listen to the track, a cover of Jobriath’s “Morning Starship” above.
“Morning Starship” follows the debut of last month’s cover of Roy Orbison’s 1964 release “It’s Over,” which features LP on guest vocals. Roy Orbison, Jr. voiced his unwavering approval of Moz’ rendition in a statement, saying “We love Morrissey! Morrissey’s hair, and melancholy and poetic lyrics always reminded me of my dad. His version of ‘It’s Over’ is great.”
Morrissey‘s California Son will feature 10 other covers including Bob Dylan’s “Only a Pawn In Their Game” (with Petra Haden), Joni Mitchell’s “Don’t Interrupt the Sorrow” (with Ariel Engle of Broken Social Scene) and The Fifth Dimension’s “Wedding Bell Blues” (with Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day & Lydia Night of The Regrettes), among others.
