Michael McDermott releases new album and 2018 Summer Tour dates

Singer-songwriter Michael McDermott recently released his latest album Out from Under. The folk rock artist hailing from Chicago will also be backing up the new effort with a host of supporting Summer Tour dates.

McDermott’s new album and tour come on the heals of a major triumph over addiction after a 20-year run with drugs and alcohol. Having gone clean four years back, the guitarist and singer is charging ahead with a new outlook on life and making music. “I know it sounds cheesy, but I’m grateful for every day now,” says McDermott. “I’ve re-dedicated myself to making music I can be proud of.”

Out from Under is McDermott’s 11th studio album and the followup to 2016’s Willow Springs. Recorded at his home facility, Pauper Sky Studio in Willow Springs, Illinois, the new LP sees McDermott taking on vocals, guitar, bass, piano and keyboards. The album also features a handful of guest appearances including McDermott’s wife, Heather Lynne Horton, who contributed backup vocals and fiddle to the record.

“I could say that this is the record I always wanted to make, but the real truth is, this is the album I was always supposed to make,” says McDermott. “I had put out a lot of records that I didn’t feel confident about, but when I took control of my life and made Willow Springs, I felt like a new man. The success of that record stayed with me on Out from Under. I had a belief in myself and this overarching sense of ambition. At the same time, I learned how to stop being so damn self-aware. Letting go of your fear can allow you to stop overthinking things so much. I just got out of my own way and let it happen.”

Among McDermott’s tour dates are stops in Ann Arbor, MI, Pittsburgh, PA, Asbury Park, NJ and New York, NY. He will also be performing at the Roscoe Village Burger Fest in Chicago on July 14.
