Ricky Gervais’ Netflix comedy ‘After Life’ gets Season 2 green light

Ricky Gervais - After Life

Ricky Gervais’ After Life has just received approval for a second season as Netflix has officially ordered another six episodes of the dark comedy series.

After Life is written and directed by Gervais, who also stars in the series. The show follows Tony (Gervais), who had a perfect life until his wife Lisa suddenly passes away. In the wake of her death, Tony changes, contemplates taking his own life but, rather, decides to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he likes. He believes his new outlook on life to be a sort of super power but things soon get tricky as his friends attempt to save the nice guy they used to know.

According to Deadline, Season 2 of After Life will launch sometime in 2020. Gervais, the genius behind such shows as The Office, Extras and NetflixDerek, told the outlet he had a “spring in his step as he skips towards writing season two.”

“I have never had a reaction like this before,” Gervais said with regard to the response to After Life. “It’s been insane. And heartwarming. But now I have to make sure the second season is even better so I’ll probably have to work much harder than usual. Annoying really.”

After Life is produced by Netflix and Gervais’ Derek Productions. The series is produced by Chrlie Hanson and exec produced by Gervais and Duncan Hayes.
