Metallica has announced their return to the stage for a special concert event recorded at the group’s Northern California headquarters – and then edited and mixed – to be shown across hundreds of drive-in and outdoor theaters on Aug. 29. Three Days Grace will serve as the opening act for the show which is part of the Encore Drive-In Nights series.

A fan club pre-sale begins today and tickets will be available for the general public on Aug. 14. Each $115 ticket admits a carload of up to six people and includes four digital downloads of Metallica’s upcoming S&M2 album.

“In all of rock, it literally doesn’t get any bigger than Metallica,” said Walter Kinzie, CEO of Encore Live in a statement. “Over the course of their career these guys have completely redefined rock, touring and frankly what’s possible in terms of success in this industry. We’ve seen with our first two Encore Nights Drive-In concerts that fans absolutely dig the drive-in experience and we know that Metallica is going to blow the top off of this thing and take it to a whole new level.”

Drive-in theaters will adhere to CDC recommended guidelines and state and local health mandates. Six feet of space will be enforced between cars and staff will wear personal protective equipment. A full list of health and safety procedures can be found at encorenights.com.
