Fans of rock and roll flocked to the Concord Music Hall in Chicago on July 14 to check out the 2021 edition of the Summerland Tour. The stop’s lineup featured Everclear, Hoobastank, Wheatus and AEIR, the latter of whom filled in for Living Colour who will be performing in the Windy City during Riot Fest this September.

In a recent interview with Art Alexakis, the Everclear frontman and Summerland Tour founder described the enduring draw of the traveling musical event for multi-generational fans saying, “The thing about Summerland is it’s a lot of bands and it’s usually shorter sets, a lot of hits, a lot of fan favorites, maybe a new song, maybe a cover and then you get out and no one gets hurt.”

Everclear hits like “Heroin Girl” and “Everything to Everyone” had the crowd singing along while earlier in the night Hoobastank brought a harder energy to “Pieces,” “Inside of You” and “Crawling in the Dark.” Everyone’s favorite “Teenage Dirtbags,” Wheatus, shared new material along with fan favorites and AEIR won over the crowd with an energetic opening set.
