Metallica announces new album ’72 Seasons’ and M72 World Tour

Metallica

Metallica fans received an amazing gift today as the legendary band has announced a new album and a massive world tour.

Metallica’s 12th studio album, 72 Seasons, will be available on April 14, 2023 via Blackened Recordings. The 12-track, 77-minute record is produced by Greg Fidelman with James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich.

“72 seasons. The first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves. The concept that we were told ‘who we are’ by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adult experience is reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry,” said Hetfield in a statement.

The album’s debut single “Lux Æterna” is available now. Check out the video below.

The M72 World Tour – presented by Liquid Death and Blackened American Whiskey and promoted by Live Nation – will be kicking off in Amsterdam on April 27 before heading to Paris, Hamburg and other great cities. The first North American leg will begin in East Rutherford, NJ on Aug. 4 and there are a pair of Chicago dates scheduled to take place at Soldier Field on Aug. 9 and Aug. 11, 2024.

Metallica will be playing two nights in every city with completely different setlists and support lineups happening each night. A portion of proceeds from every ticket sold will go to the band’s All Within My Hands foundation.

Two-day tickets go on sale this Friday, Dec. 2 and single day tickets will become available on Jan. 20.
