On March 10, 2022, Tool made a triumphant return to the United Center in Chicago picking up where they left off on the Fear Inoculum Tour.

Maynard James Keenan, Danny Carey, Adam Jones and Justin Chancellor began the show the same way they did back in 2019 with an epic rendition of “Fear Inoculum.” Chicago fans were amped up to see Tool, but Keenan encouraged them to work on the enthusiasm of their call and responses.

“Chicago,” he called out as fans burst into a modest applause.

“Work on it,” he added before the band began one of their biggest radio hits, “Sober.”

Work on it they did. By the time the stringed curtain – that had been partially obscuring the band – opened up for “Pneuma” into “The Grudge” the audience was fully swept-up into the moment.

Carey was as masterful as ever throughout the night especially when treating everyone to a drum solo at the top of the encore. The tour requested that fans refrain from using their phones while in their seats, but an exception for photos and videos was made for the last song of the set, “Invincible,” though flash photography was still strongly discouraged.

Keenan explained that he will “punch you in the d*ck” if you use lights or flashes. Everyone complied.

Earlier, The Acid Helps opened things up with a blistering set of their own.
